School Hosts Anti-Bullying Guest Speaker

The American School of Puerto Vallarta recently hosted Dr. William Nicoll, a professor at Florida Atlantic University, to deliver several talks for students, parents and teachers on anti-bullying.

Given the rise in social media use, bullying and aggression among students is a growing concern. ¨No school is immune (to bullying),¨ Dr. Nicoll said in his talk about steps schools can take to effectively address bullying, such as establishing pro-active school policies, early intervention and providing parent education. Dr. Nicoll discussed strategies for improving a school´s culture and creating responsible bystanders to stop bullying on campus. ¨Focusing on changing the bystander’s role is crucial for the prevention of bullying behaviors," Dr. Nicoll said.
