The American School is a private, independent school offering a bilingual, bicultural education to students from preschool through grade 12. Students benefit from highly-dedicated and talented teachers in a small school atmosphere, and a comprehensive dual curriculum which encompasses that of quality private and public schools in the United States and those established by the Mexican Ministry of Education. Our graduates are accepted into some of the finest universities in the world, such as Brown University in the United States, Queens University in Canada, and TECH in Mexico.
Founded in 1986 by local business leaders, the American School of Puerto Vallarta is a nonprofit, nonsectarian educational institution accredited by the U.S. Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, the Mexican Ministry of Education, and the National University of Mexico.

| ORGANIZATION AND ADMINISTRATION |
Our school administration is governed by a 5-member board of parents and interested community members who are appointed by a Board of Founders and serve for 5 years. The board has the same responsibilities and authority as public school boards in the United States. The school's operational budget is derived from enrollment and tuition fees. All capital outlay is accomplished through donations.

| MEET OUR SUPERINTENDENT |
 Gerald Selitzer has served as the Head of the American School of Puerto Vallarta since 1986, the year it was established. He is a graduate of The University of the City of New York, where he did his undergraduate work and of the University of Alabama where he received a Masters degree in Educational Administration. Currently, in addition to his duties at ASPV, he serves as President of the Association of American Schools in Mexico (ASOMEX) and also as President of The Tri-Association, an alliance of the Mexican, Central American and Columbian - Caribbean American School Associations.

| MEET OUR HIGH SCHOOL PRINCIPAL |
 José Antonio Salgado was born in Chiapas, México and became a U.S. Citizen in 1985. He graduated from Law School at the National Autonomous University of Mexico and obtained his Masters in Educational Leadership at Florida Atlantic University. After working for nine years as a prosecuting attorney in Mexico City and living in the United States for six years, Jose Antonio made the decision to change careers and entered the field of education. He taught Mexican law, Civics, and Philosophy at the American School Foundation in Mexico City, and then transferred to the American School of Puerto Vallarta, where he continued to teach for four years before assuming the position of High School Principal.

| MEET OUR ELEMENTARY SCHOOL PRINCIPAL |
 Kathy Selitzer, originally from Las Vegas, Nevada, is in her fifth year as primary school principal at A.S.P.V. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary and Special Education from the University of Nevada Reno and received a Master's degree in Education from the same university. She was special education teacher in Reno, Nevada for seven years before taking the position as Elementary Principal of the American School of Pachuca, Hidalgo in Mexico. She has lived in Puerto Vallarta for 19 years with her husband Gerald, (superintendent of ASPV) and her daughter Amanda.
